Children & Youth Counselling
Our child and youth counselling services can help them through their challenges, develop coping strategies, and get back to enjoying their life.
Childhood and adolescent development are important stages in our social, emotional, and physical growth and development over the course of our lives. What happens in our early years may have an effect on our mental health, physical health, relationships, education and employment, and our coping abilities throughout our lives. Right now in Canada, there are approximately 1.2 million children who have a mental illness. For these reasons, it’s important to support early prevention and intervention when your child or teenager is experiencing challenges.
It is not uncommon for children and teenagers to experience challenges associated with:
- Peer pressure
- Family conflict
- Abuse
- Bullying
- Addictions
- Self-harm, suicide
- Physical injuries
- Behaviour
- Divorce, family separation
- Learning disabilities, ADHD
- Self-esteem, body image
- Eating disorders
- Sibling rivalry
- Academic failure
- Fear and anxiety
- Post-trauma stress (PTSD)
Signs of Mental Distress
Your child or teen may not have the developed strategies to communicate their challenges, stress and/or distress in typical ways. Instead, their stress and/or distress may be witnessed through various emotional and behavioural disturbances, including but not limited to:
- Bed wetting
